Allan Watts

Financial Advisor & Head of Bluegrass Retirement Plans

Within Bluegrass Investment Company, Allan leads the Retirement Plans division, which specializes in 401(k) plans for businesses in Allan’s home state of Kentucky.

After purchasing his first stock in 1984, Allan knew he wanted to work in the financial world. That first stock continues to hold significance for him – and he has continued to buy and sell shares in it ever since.

He focused on finance while attending the University of Kentucky, and in 2004 he became a Financial Advisor. In that role, he was naturally drawn to the corporate 401(k) space. He feels fluent in the 401(k) language and deeply understands the structure. He has earned several certifications that speak to his credibility as an advisor in the space: Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor, Qualified 401(K) Plan Advisor, and Accredited Investment Fiduciary.

Allan has worked on some of the largest retirement plans and endowments in Kentucky and continues to build on those relationships today.

Allan finds purpose in serving he hardworking individuals who are the backbone of any good business, individuals he thinks of as, “my kind of people.” While the 401(k) is what brings them together, Allan says he always seeks to be more than just someone’s “401(k) guy”– rather, he desires to be a trusted advisor, informational resources, and friend.

Family Man Focused on Building Relationships & Friendships

For Allan, the decision to attend the University of Kentucky (UK) in 1992 was a putting-down-roots moment — even though he had no way of predicting the extent of it at the time.

How Allan has come to view his Lexington-area home says a lot about his priorities in life. It is a “Goldilocks” place to live and work — not too big, not too small, offering everything you need to raise a family, and exuding a close-knit-community feel. Plus, it’s the most beautiful place on earth, in his opinion.

He is unmistakably proud of his community. Yet, it pales in comparison to the pride he feels for his family — wife Rachel, younger twins Anna Belle and Brody, and older children Molly and Braden — as well as the results of his professional tenacity. He has achieved a long tenure in a tough business, learned to speak the 401(k)-world-language fluently, and acquiring professional designations that allow him to specialize in an area of financial services many others shy away from due to perceived complexity.

Outside of work, he follows UK sports, cheers on his children at their sporting events, enjoys cooking in the backyard, and spends as much time outdoors as possible. He is also Treasurer and Finance Chair on the Board of Directors at his children’s school, Lexington Christian Academy.

His vision for the future includes living by a lake, lots of dogs, and some grandchildren running around.
